Fireweed, Sesame Seed and Lime Leaf Bud Snacklet.
Fireweed, Rosebay willow herb, bomb weed, and poor man’s asparagus are some of the common names given to Chamerion Angustifolium. As the last common name implies it does have asparagus over tones and in my opinion tastes better. After picking, slightly bend near the bottom of the shoot or cut off and discard the woody bit as you would with asparagus. The lime leaf buds when young have a wonderful nutty flavour which I add in to many dishes and salads.
Method
I toast the sesame seeds in a dry pan for a few minutes and put to the side.
Add butter to pan, add Fireweed and cook for three minutes then add the leaf buds and cook for a further two minutes.
Then add a squeeze of lime and a dash of soya sauce.
Serve up on a plate sprinkled with the sesame seeds.
A beautiful starter, side dish or snacklet worthy of any gourmet restaurant!
